This Policy explains how The Africa Yearbook Community (“TAYC”) handles personal information when people register, verify membership, contact us, participate in community activities or use this website.

1. Information we collect

Depending on how you interact with TAYC, we may collect your name, email address, phone/WhatsApp number, country, city, school or organisation, professional role, optional biography, membership number, membership dates, messages sent to TAYC, founder responses, and basic technical information needed to operate and secure the website.

2. Why we use it

We use information to register and administer membership; issue and verify certificates; communicate with members; respond to questions; operate events and resources; protect the community; maintain records; understand community growth; and meet legal obligations. We do not sell members’ personal information.

3. Public membership verification

The verification feature is designed to confirm a membership record. It may display limited professional membership information such as member name, membership number, organisation, country, joining date and current membership status/validity. Do not register information you are not authorized to provide.

4. Service providers and international processing

TAYC uses technology service providers to host the website, store records and send email. This can involve processing or storage outside your country. We seek to use reputable providers and limit information shared to what is reasonably needed for the service.

5. Retention and security

We retain membership records while reasonably needed to maintain permanent member numbers, certificate history, community administration, legal records and legitimate operational history. Contact messages may be retained to maintain support history. We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, but no online system can guarantee absolute security.

6. Children and school information

TAYC is not intended as a repository for confidential student records. Visitors should not submit sensitive information about children through the quick-message feature. Where students participate in community activities, schools, guardians and organizers remain responsible for permissions and safeguarding requirements that apply to them.

7. Your choices and rights

Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection or other action concerning your personal information. Some records may need to be retained for legitimate administrative or legal purposes. Contact us to make a request.

8. Legal framework

TAYC is administered from Nigeria and aims to handle personal information consistently with applicable Nigerian data-protection requirements, including the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, while recognizing that additional mandatory privacy rights may apply to people in other African jurisdictions.
